Former TN Senator eyeing run at White House

Posted by Stephen on March 2, 2007

No, it’s not Al Gore.

Former Tennessee Republican Senator, now actor, Fred Thompson is reportedly eyeing the 08 nomination for President of the United States.

The popular actor may get a warm reception from a conservative base unsatisfied with its current choices. Thompson is known as a supporter of conservative positions on social issues such as gay marriage and abortion while being a fiscal conservative.

Some Republican leaders say his star power and conservative roots may be very welcome in the race where neither void has been filled. However, neo-conservatives are not as warm to the idea. Reports have surfaced that some neo-cons are concerned about any candidate’s ability to go from being a TV star to President during a time of war.

While Thompson is in the very early stages of exploration, the intrigue has already started to grow. Many in the Republican circles may welcome Thompson with open arms should his exploration turn into an attempt to earn the Republican Presidential nomination.
