Daschle bows out…

Posted by Stephen on February 3, 2009

There’s the bright spotlight, the embarrassing revelation of tax fraud, the intense scrutiny, and vast investigation by former colleagues Tom Daschle had to consider while fighting for a nomination as the Health and Human Services Secretary.

Perhaps it was too much to handle.

Tom Daschle has reportedly asked to be withdrawn from consideration for the post after many Republicans and some Democrats began to waver in their support.

The former Senator from North Dakota faced increasing calls for an explanation over why he failed to pay more than $100,000 in back taxes, primarily for the use of a car and driver for three years. After a 75-minute closed-door meeting yesterday with the Senate Finance Committee, he emerged ashen-faced and apologetic.

The apology didn’t sway Senator’s that are growing increasingly concerned with the new President’s vetting process. This is the second nominee that has had to face, to their demise, questions over tax fraud of some kind.

The more one watches President Obama in action the more one questions his rhetoric of a “New Washington” often elicited during the campaign to become the 44th President of the United States. It looks more like a typical liberal left Presidency crafted by an elitist Washington insider.
